Perched on the edge of Redhill, Surrey is the Reigate Manor Hotel, an elegant 18th-century manor house that is now used to host various events, including weddings and conferences. Its two-faced history is reflected in the two different areas this venue offers. With several suites and function rooms available to book, this venue caters to all party sizes and occasions.  

The Surrey Chambers of Commerce recently booked the Reigate Manor Hotel to carry out a digital marketing training event for employees of local companies. To prepare for such an event, The Sound & Light Hire Company were hired to provide an AV installation capable of handling the 100 or so guests in attendance. 

As this sort of work is our bread and butter, we were more than happy to oblige. So let’s tell you a little more about the work we carried out. 

AV Installation Supplied to Leading Surrey Events Hotel

As it turned out, the event was set to take place in the suite known as the Garden Room. The seats were arranged in rows (or a “theatre” format, if you prefer) to maximise the number of people that could be squeezed into the space to listen to the training workshop instructor. 

Essentially, our job was to ensure that the instructor had everything he needed to carry out the training from a technical standpoint. That started by supplying him with a laptop so he could set up his PowerPoint presentation via USB. We then connected that laptop up to a state-of-the-art projector positioned on a free-standing desk nearby. 

We then erected a projector screen and began adjusting the projector settings to ensure it filled the entire screen in the correct proportions. Our next job was to move on to the sound, as we shall now explain. 

Professional Sound Equipment Installation at Reigate Manor Hotel

After we had handled the visual elements, it was time to move on to the sound equipment. We started by supplying a Shure radio lapel mic for the instructor as he needed his hands free during the presentation. 

We then ran that mic through a couple of PA speakers placed at either side of the projector screen and another pair of battery-powered PA speakers located at the rear of the seating area, just to make sure those at the back had adequate coverage. Going battery-powered allowed us to save on unsightly power and data transfer cables running from the front to the back of the room, which could have also presented a trip hazard. 

All in all, this certainly wasn’t the most extensive AV installation we’ve ever completed. However, our client was thrilled with the setup, and the event was a great success. We have already been booked again to take care of the AV requirements for the next training event in this series.

Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel is one of Surrey’s most exclusive wedding venues. This charming barn-based venue in Dorking offers a rustic yet contemporary setting for couples looking to tie the knot. In particular, the charming Tithe Barn overlooks the River Mole and offers incredible views of Box Hill, making it the perfect place for a wedding ceremony or reception. 

It was to provide the setting for our first wedding of 2022, a lovely intimate affair that took place across the bank holiday weekend. So, with the background set, let’s tell you all about our work on this project! 

The Sound & Light Hire Company Provide Event Production Services to Wedding in Dorking, Surrey

As mentioned, we were tasked with providing a full suite of event production not already provided by the venue. In this specific case, that turned out to be everything bar the tables, chairs, and dance floor. 

Our job was to transform the barn area into a space that reflected the wedding decor ideas the couple had come up with. So, we initially decorated the space with white venue drapes hung from strategic points along the wooden ceiling beams and from the Minstrel’s gallery, right down the floor in some places.

We then ran wedding festoon lights across the wooden ceiling beams and wrapped the vertical beams in fairy lights to give the room a magical feel. We finished the decorative/mood lighting setup with a couple of banks of wireless uplighters on either side of the room, which lit up the walls in a rich shade of purple.

We added the finishing touches lighting-wise by custom-manufacturing and installing a neon letter lighting installation with the couple’s name and the wedding date.

Once we had taken care of the decor-related production, it was time to move on to the technical infrastructure. Given the nature of the venue (and the equipment they had in-house), there was no need for a stage or dance floor, which we typically supply for a wedding of this size. 

Thus, our focus turned to supplying and installing professional sound and lighting equipment. We started with a pair of RCF PA speakers and subwoofers for the DJ and his requested Pioneer DJ system before rigging a truss over the dance floor area to affix the dance floor lighting fixtures, including a couple of Big-Eye moving heads, a laser machine, and some LED disco lights

It certainly wasn’t the most extensive wedding sound and lighting setup we had ever installed. However, we think we hit the nail on the head with this one. The dance floor lighting setup was easily visible from across the room and looked great as the bride and groom took to their first dance as a married couple.

Located in Dorking, Surrey is the 17th Century Grade II listed Wotton House. This events venue is a stunning country estate hotel surrounded by ornate Italian gardens, temples, ponds, and babbling brooks with pretty little bridges over them. In fact, the gardens are deemed of such historical interest they have been given a Grade II listing in addition to the house.

However, our focus was on the interior as we were contacted by a client who had booked the majestic Wotton Suite for their conference. While the space does have some AV equipment in place, they decided that they needed more by way of event production to ensure the event was everything they had envisioned.

So without further ado, let’s tell you about our work. 

Conference Set Installation at Wotton House for Surrey Conference  

We started with the conference set, which was a raised platform that spanned the front of the room. While one of our preset designs fitted in the space, we customised it with the logos and the clients’ branding. We then completed the conference set with several chairs and a podium for the guest speakers

The chairs in the room were laid out in the “theatre” format, allowing just under 250 delegates to fit comfortably within the four walls of the conference suite. As mentioned, while the suite does have equipment included, the client decided that we would come in and offer upgraded versions of their in-house devices, as we shall now explain. 

AV Installation for Surrey Conference at Wotton House 

The first item we replaced was the in-house LCD projector, providing a state-of-the-art Panasonic 4K projector in its place. We also provided a matching projector screen that was considerably larger than the existing in-house offering. 

Next, we offered a complete suite of professional sound equipment, including six PA speakers and a set of Shure wireless microphones. We then ran all of those elements through a Midas digital mixing desk. Our sound engineer was also on hand to balance everyone’s levels during the event.

Next, we set up a professional lighting installation, complete with a ceiling-mounted truss. We affixed several spotlights and stage washes to achieve the desired look for the clients. We also added a couple of Big-Eye moving heads to add a little more excitement for when the headline guest and keynote speakers walked out on stage. 

Last but by no means least, we also set up a gobo projector to beam the name and logo of the event across the back wall and ceiling of the conference suite, adding a genuine touch of professionalism that the client really appreciated. 

Overall, the event was a great success. The client thanked us for all of our hard work given that we only had a few hours at the venue to get everything set up, monitored and double-checked before the event began.

The Sound & Light Hire Company Provide Full Event Production to Wedding at De Vere Horsley Estate 

Nestled within over 70 acres of sweeping Parkland, Horsley Towers within the Horsley Estate is one of Surrey’s most extravagant and exclusive wedding venues. The venue was built in 1820 and was the ancestral home of the revered Lovelace family. 

Today, its modern and contemporary interior blended with original character features such as tiled cloisters make it the perfect place to celebrate the most romantic rite of passage. 

As a preferred supplier, we tend to help most of the weddings held here with event production. However, we are still in awe every time we arrive. And, since no two weddings are the same (there are several reception and ceremony options at this venue), there are always different challenges to meet and overcome. 

With that in mind, let’s tell you more about the last time we were on-site to provide a turnkey event production package for a couple tying the knot at a local church before using Horsley Towers as their reception venue. 

Event Lighting Supplied As Part of Turnkey Event Production for Surrey Wedding Reception

The first task involved setting up all of the event lighting. We were working in the magnificent Great Hall, and, as we have done in the past, we hung wedding festoon lighting from the Minstrel Gallery right across the hall to the other end. We did this several times to create a floating bed of festoon lights, which added a real magical touch to proceedings. 

We then moved onto the reception floor and started work on the mood lighting. We used a fleet of our Chauvet wireless uplighters to bring the architectural features such as the ornate wooden panelling to life. We then liaised with the venue stylist to ensure that the shades of purple emitted from these lights were in keeping with the overall wedding decor theme and then tweaked their programming accordingly. 

It gave the room a magical ambience, especially as darkness fell. Suddenly the canopy of festoon lights came into their own, and the uplighters created a sense of magical twilight.

With all the lighting set up, it was time to move on to the other vital elements of event production. We started with the stage. We had to get creative as our traditional wedding stage options wouldn’t fit in the space. Of course, we knew this in advance having worked there so many times before. So we delivered one of our modular roofless designs, which are perfect for live bands and DJs. 

With the stage set up, we started rigging the sound and the stage/disco lighting. The entertainment for this particular wedding reception was a live band, and we liaised with them in the days leading up to the end to ensure that they had everything they needed. 

As you would expect, we provided them/our clients with a comprehensive suite of sound equipment, including but not limited to:

We also supplied an on-site engineer who was in charge of mixing them on the night. Once our lighting technicians had finished rigging the small truss with disco fixtures, it was time to move on to the last piece of the puzzle, the dance floor. 

As requested, we installed a white wedding dance floor, complete with LEDs that lit up the floor in a sparkling effect. We matched them with a few starlit backdrops to give the dance floor area an extra element of “pizzazz.” 

We had excellent feedback from the clients and Horsley Estate’s wedding coordinator (as is par for the course!), and we’re sure it won’t be long before we are back to take care of all of the technical infrastructure for another wedding.

Situated on the edge of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is the beautiful Victorian stately home, Hartsfield Manor. Set in 16 acres of private Surrey countryside on the outskirts of Betchworth, this venue is the perfect location for all kinds of private functions and events. 

As an approved event production supplier for this venue, we were recently tasked with supplying the technical infrastructure for a prom night organised by students from one of the local secondary schools. 

So, without any further delay, let’s dig into our involvement in this wonderful occasion and recap the services we rendered.

We started by setting everything up for the DJ for the evening, who was one of the school students. We supplied a DJ booth and Pioneer decks. As they were unfamiliar with them, our on-site engineers provided him with a bit of on-the-spot training, and he was up and running in no time. 

Once we had gone through the basics, it was time to put some meat on the bones for the event production, starting with the sound equipment. We installed a high-quality PA system, complete with a couple of passive speakers, a few subwoofers, and a couple of power amps. This setup was more than powerful enough for the 100 or so students in attendance. 

Next, it was time to move on to the lighting. 

Event Lighting and Dance Floor Hire Supplied to School Prom in Surrey 

We started with mood lighting. The function room provided us with a blank canvas to work with, and we decided to go with a combination of wireless uplighters and fairy lights strewn across the ballroom. The uplighters were set to a deep shade of purple that completely transformed the room’s ambience and worked really well with the dance floor lighting ensemble. 

We rigged a truss structure for the dance floor area that housed a number of disco lights, a laser machine, and the obligatory smoke machine. We also directed a few spotlights at the glitterball we had positioned over the dance floor. 

Lastly, we installed a raised LED starlit dance floor for the students. In total, it spanned a whopping 150 square metres – equating to more than a square metre per person! 

Once the event had concluded, we arrived back at Hartsfield Manor to dismantle everything and load it all back onto our vans before carting it all back to the warehouse. Although the event was in its dying embers when we came back, it certainly looked as though everyone had a great time.

Situated just over the Surrey border in Hampshire is the stunning events venue of Southdowns Manor. Located in the South Downs National Park, this 19th Century manor house has been reimagined as a boutique hotel and events venue that hosts all kinds of occasions such as weddings, birthday parties, charity events, and Christmas parties. 

In this specific case, the venue hosted an extravagant 21st birthday party. Despite being just outside of our typical operating radius, we were more than happy to help the parents of the lucky birthday boy put on what was a spectacular evening. 

So without further ado, let’s tell you a little more about the services we rendered for this incredible birthday party. 

The Sound & Light Hire Company Provide Sound and Lighting to 21st Birthday Party

We were to set up our equipment in The Banqueting Suite, which has a capacity for up to 150 guests. The event format was a dinner dance, meaning the party guests would sit down for a three-course meal before starting the party in earnest with music and dancing.

We liaised with the booked DJ beforehand to ascertain what he needed and supplied him with a package of top-notch sound equipment from d&b audiotechnik to more than fully meet his needs. We also helped with the DJ equipment itself, supplying digital Pioneer decks as requested. 

With the sound equipment in place, it was time to move on to the lights. We rigged a small truss over and above the DJ area and affixed several lighting fixtures, including but not limited to LED PAR cans, moving head lights, a laser machine, a smoke machine, and we even hung a glitter ball over the dance floor area. 

Speaking of dance floors, that was the final piece of the event production puzzle, so let’s tell you a little more about it.

Last but certainly by no means least was the dance floor. We supplied our black starlit dance floor, with the built-in LEDs giving the appearance of stars twinkling underneath the dancing guests’ feet. 

We also matched the dance floor area with four banks of low-level starlit drapes to give an air of even more exclusivity to the venue and the dance floor area in particular. 

Once we had set everything up, we left the client to liaise with the key stakeholders to make sure everything went to plan and returned later on when the party was close to wrapping up. Upon re-entry to the venue, it was clear from the smiles on everyone’s faces (including the clients’) that everyone had enjoyed a fantastic evening.

Straddling the Surrey and Hampshire border, Northbrook Park is a truly spectacular venue. Set within 120 acres of stunning countryside, this privately owned Grade II listed eighteenth-century manor house offers a choice of unique wedding settings to tailor a truly bespoke celebration.

It was recently the setting for an incredible Bengali wedding reception (with no less than a whopping 250 guests!). We became involved when the happy couple had instructed us to take care of all the technical event production elements. It’s fair to say we had our work cut out, but we brought out the big guns, as we shall now explain.  

Wedding Stage Hire for Asian Wedding in Surrey

The first and perhaps most crucial event production element we provided for our clients was the wedding stage. As those familiar with Asian wedding celebrations know, the wedding stage is of utmost importance, with the bride, groom, and other dignitaries taking their place on the platform at the head of the hired event space. 

We supplied one of our modular, elevated platforms for this specific wedding event and combined it with three-tiered steps leading up to it. While we often supply white wedding stages, we customised this particular one with rose-gold-effect plating, as was requested, so that it fitted in nicely with the rest of the wedding decor. 

With the stage taken care of, it was time to move on to the more technical aspects, such as the sound and lighting equipment.

As mentioned, this is one of the largest weddings by way of attendees we have ever supplied our equipment and services to. Fortunately, since we supply clients such as music festivals, we are no strangers to supplying equipment capable of wowing audiences in the hundreds or even thousands. 

On the sound side, we supplied one of our premium PA systems from industry-leading brand d&b audiotechnik. We paired them with a couple of wireless mics for the DJs (yes, there were a couple of them), and we had our sound engineer monitor all of the sound through a Midas digital mixing desk

Concerning the lighting, the venue actually had dedicated rigging and anchor points for lighting fixtures, which certainly made our job more manageable. We used these locations to rig moving head lights, LED disco lights, and a couple of laser machines for good measure. 

Finally, in keeping with the white and gold decor theme, we supplied and installed a white starlit dance floor that sparkled underneath the many dancing feet! We managed to fit a staggering 35ft by 20ft dance floor into the event space, delivering 700 square feet of dance floor surface area!

This was the room to be used as the space for an industry seminar in the business sector that The Sound & Light Company recently helped with our event production services.

Prestigious and Exclusive Seminar Event with One of London’s Biggest Names in Finance in Surbiton, Surrey

While the client strictly forbade us from revealing too much information about the event, the premise was pretty simple. The client had hired Glenmore House’s exclusive Elizabethan Suite to host an industry seminar with one of London’s most prominent hedge fund managers. 

There was a presentation from the star guest, before an open interview led by a prominent journalist from the Financial Times, a question and answer section, and lastly, a post-seminar networking session where all delegates got a chance to chat with each other and the famous guest speaker.

We were tasked with providing a projector and screen combination that was up to the task of the presentation. Seeing as we are supplying these devices to events week in, week out, this wasn’t an issue, and we supplied one of our brand new 4K projectors with a 7 x 5 ft screen. 

We hooked up this projector to a laptop via HDMI, and we helped the star guest by running through some on-the-spot basics and walking him through using the slide clicker. As it turned out, he was familiar with these setups and picked it all up immediately. 

Next, we supplied him with a wireless lapel mic run through a PA system more than powerful enough for the 100 or so delegates in attendance. For the interview session, we switched him and the journalist onto Shure wireless mics and ran everything through a digital mixing desk overseen by one of our sound engineers. 

Lastly, we set up a separate set of PA speakers closer to the bar area that played background music during the intermissions and the networking session towards the end of the evening.

The last event production element to mention was the event lighting we installed and operated during proceedings. We rigged a truss for the stage lighting towards the rear of the room, using spotlights and stage washes to illuminate the elevated platform that had been provided in-house. 

Overall the evening was well-received, and the client has already contacted us to look after the event production requirements for the next edition of this event.

This charming Tudor manor barn looks as if it has been transported directly from the 16th Century and still looks unchanged from the outside, despite its modern interior. With roaring log fires and wooden beams, this exclusive-use wedding venue offers happy couples the chance to experience a ceremony or reception like no other. 

Cain Manor is one of Bijou’s wedding venues, and, given we are on their preferred supplier list, we were asked to handle many of the event production aspects. So without further ado, let’s delve into the details of this intimate and quaint celebration that we were privileged to be a part of. 

Event Lighting Supplied to Wedding Reception at Cain Manor

We began by installing an array of event and mood lighting for the dinner and speeches whilst also having one eye on the frivolity and dancing to come in the evening. We started with wedding festoon lighting

With the plentiful wooden beams within the property and the Music Room in particular (where the reception was held), intertwining these warm glowing fairytale-esque lights was a no-brainer. We started by draping them from the minstrels’ gallery rights across the main room. We also wrapped fairy lights around the wooden supporting beams to complete the rustic look.   

We then set up three banks of wireless uplighters along the two side walls and the back wall, respectively. Initially, we programmed them to emit warm shades of yellow to match the festoon lighting. However, when the time came for the happy couple and their guests to get in the party spirit, we switched them to a deep purple to better reflect the desired atmosphere. 

Last but by no means least, we also supplied an array of LED disco lights and a set of LED light-up letters that spelt the newly-wed couple’s names.

Next, we built on the existing sound set up with the manor to supply an immersive PA system more than capable of entertaining the 100 or so guests in attendance. We supplied a couple of wireless mics for the speeches, and we complemented them with a couple of PA speakers, a few subwoofers, and a couple of power amps, all of which was run through a mixing desk.

This setup was put in place for the wedding DJ (it would have been more than overkill for the wedding speeches), and he was impressed with the quality of equipment we had supplied him with (the professionals always smile when they see the words d&b audiotechnik on the side of the speakers!). 

While it certainly wasn’t the most complicated sound setup we have provided to a wedding, it nevertheless proved to be more than ample, with the guests commenting on how good the sound was in the Music Room. 

Dance Floor Hire for Surrey Wedding Venue

The last remaining event production element we were in charge of was the dance floor hire. With the Music Room not being the biggest of spaces, we opted for a dance floor that would deliver maximum impact in return for a minimum footprint. That meant bringing our white starlit LED dance floor that perfectly offset the purple mood lighting delivered by our uplighters and stole the centre of attention after darkness fell. 

All in all, the event production element we supplied and installed came together brilliantly to deliver the perfect technical infrastructure for the wedding celebration that will live long in the memory for all of those in attendance.

Resting on the borders of Surrey, Hampshire, and West Sussex is the Lythe Hill Hotel & Spa. The award-winning events venue is surrounded by countryside and combines old-world charm with a contemporary and elegant décor. 

While the original 16th century Tudor House sits overlooking a stunning lake against breath-taking views of the South Downs Countryside beyond, once inside, the facade unravels to reveal an extraordinarily modern and well-appointed interior for events such as weddings and conferences. 

Just a matter of weeks ago, we were asked to provide the staging, event lighting, and professional sound equipment for a corporate Christmas party taking place at this exclusive venue. We were, of course, more than happy to oblige despite the location being further afield than our usual radius of operations. 

So, without further ado, let’s tell you a little more about how we helped the client pull off a spectacular celebration of all their hard working staff.

The event was taking place in Lythe Hill’s Ivory Room. A stunning space with a valued glass ceiling and chandeliers that oozed modernity and exclusivity. The tables for the event were laid out in a banquet style, with one side of the room dedicated to the live entertainment area. 

This is where we came in. 

We started by erecting one of our modular live band stages. The client didn’t actually book a live band, but the stage doubles as an excellent elevated position for DJs and sound equipment, as was the case in this instance. 

We then set up and rigged a rectangular truss, with half of the lights beaming down onto the stage and the others (LED disco lights) beaming down onto the dance floor area. Fixtures included spotlights, moving heads, and LED PAR cans

Next, we catered for the needs of the event’s sound system. In the end, in consultation with the client, we opted for a sizeable d&b audiotechnik PA system, complete with mid-top speakers, a couple of bass speakers, and a few power amps. We ran everything through a mixing desk and performed a quick soundcheck to ensure everything sounded A-OK before the DJ arrived to set up his equipment.  

We usually also supply dance floors to these events, but seeing as the Ivory Room has a built-in parquet flooring section that naturally doubles as a dance floor, there was no need in this instance. 

Finally, our team arrived back on-site to begin the dismantling process once the event entered its dying embers. It looked as though everyone had enjoyed a great night, and the client stopped by to give us their thanks for a job well done. 

Once we had packed everything up, it was time to head back to the warehouse, check everything over and get the devices ready for their next outing.
