Holding the title of England’s largest vineyard, this estate sprawls over 265 acres and sits on the rural outskirts of Dorking. It acts as an incredible venue for a wedding, which usually takes place in the Conservatory Atrium. However, this can be extended to include the Garden Room if you need every inch of the capacity limit (400). 

Last Summer, we were approached by a couple who, at short notice, had been let down by one of their event production suppliers due to the confusion surrounding the pandemic. As is par for the course for The Sound & Light Company, we moved a few mountains to bring everything together for their special day, and so we’d like to tell you a little more about the work we undertook on what turned out to be a wonderful summer’s day.

Due to the nature of the venue, the event theme was very much of a rustic nature. We bore that in mind when supplying and installing the mood and decorative lighting. 

We started by draping festoon lights from the vaulted glass ceiling of the Conservatory Atrium. We then placed a few strategic wireless uplighters to emit a similar warm yellow glow. When night fell, the whole setting looked majestic, and the couple were stunned as they made their way into the room to be seated as a married couple for the first time.  

Next up, our responsibilities shifted to setting up the technical equipment for the evening entertainment.

As mentioned, once we had taken care of our decorative and atmospheric brief, it was time to focus our attention on the central aspect of our event brief, the event production for the live entertainment portion of the proceedings. 

We started by supplying and installing one of our indoor wedding stages. It was a 6m x 4m modular stage, accompanied by a truss structure that housed the stage and dance floor lighting fixtures. 

The entertainment was a mixture of a professional live wedding band and a DJ who carried the party into the early hours. With that in mind, we set up a comprehensive PA system for the live band, including d&b audiotechnik speakers, subwoofers, power amps, and fed all of the above back to one of our premier digital mixing desks

We also supplied numerous Shure wireless mics, which were also available for the weddings speeches. We then completed the set-up with a professional DJ booth, including a set of top-of-the-range Pioneer digital decks listed on the DJ’s rider request. 

Lastly, we set about installing the wedding dance floor and matching backdrops. Together with the couple, we decided that a 12m x 6m dance floor was the best option given the available footprint, and they chose our white starlit dance floor. We then completed the dance floor and stage area with a couple of matching starlit backdrops and drapes to help everyone get in the party mood.

Farnham’s Frensham Hall is one of Surrey’s most spectacular events venues. It boasts a wonderful story that includes a string of famous parties at the turn of the 19th Century and playing host to wonder soldiers during World War One. Today, it acts as the perfect venue for wedding celebrations, corporate events, and gala receptions. 

At the heart of the venue is an Edwardian ballroom complete with traditional Minstrels’ Galleries, and the house is also blessed with stunning grounds, an intimate walled garden, and outstanding views from almost every available window.  

This elegant venue was the setting for a prestigious gala dinner, hosted by a prominent local company looking to raise money for several worthy local charities. The Sound & Light Hire Company were tasked with providing a range of event production services pertaining to the entertainment portion of proceedings.

The primary purpose of the evening was, of course, to raise money for charities. That being the case, the event’s focus was the three-course dinner and the subsequent auction. However, once those were out of the way, it was over to the hired DJ to get those in attendance up and dancing. 

This is where we came in. We were charged with supplying and installing the sound, lighting, and dance floor to ensure the entire dance floor area was as enticing as possible. We started by installing up a sound system that could comfortably provide enough oomph for the approximately 150 guests. Luckily, the d&b audiotechnik PA systems we stock and install are more than capable of handling audiences of this size. 

Once we had set up and tested all of the sound equipment, it was time to focus on the lights. Given that we were lighting the dance floor area, we installed LED disco lights over the dance floor. This involved rigging one of our aluminium truss structures from one side of the ballroom to the other. We completed the setup with a couple of laser and fog machines

Once all of the lighting and special effects fixtures were rigged and ready to go, it was time to construct the dancefloor.

This was a gala event, after all, so we created a very posh dance floor set up. We supplied and installed one of our black LED dance floors, which twinkles with star-like LED lights. In all, the dance floor came to an impressive 80 square metres, and we complemented it on the backside with a matching starlit backdrop. 

As we arrived towards the end of proceeding to begin the dismantling process, we could see that all of the guests were having a great time, and the dance floor looked and sounded incredible, which is no less than we always aim for.

When it comes to end-of-year company bashes, venues don’t come much grander or more opulent than Addington Palace. Nestled within 163 acres of landscaped gardens and parkland (including a golf course), this Georgian mansion venue is the pride of Croydon, Surrey. 

Being just 12 miles from central London, the company in question felt this was a perfect venue for their annual awards-show-cum-Christmas-party. From the Great Hall to the sprawling main staircase, this was the ideal setting for employees and executives to let their hair down and enjoy a well-earned night off. 

So, now we’ve supplied you with the background information, let’s tell you a little more about how we helped put on a spectacular event hosted by one of London’s leading financial services firms.

The first aspect of the event brief was to supply the venue with an indoor stage worthy of the occasion. We built the main stage from one of our standard modular designs, and we completely customised the structure with company logos and branding materials. 

After erecting the stage, we then fitted 18 x moving head lights, 14 x PAR beams and 4 x stage uplights to create a dynamic stage set design. The stage production was completed with us installing a professional PA system from d&b audiotechnik under the control of a Midas M32 mixing desk and one of our experienced sound engineers. 

However, we weren’t finished yet. We also supplied two separate sections of LED video wall to broadcast a number of video features slated to play during proceedings. These were predominately short reels of the nominees and award winners beamed out to the audience.

We started by installing festoon lights, draping them over the Great Hall’s dining area from the wooden beams. Then we strategically placed wireless venue uplighters along the periphery of the room that cycled through numerous shades of the company’s primary brand colours. We completed our decorative/atmospheric lighting lineup with a couple of gobo projectors that beamed the company logo around the ceiling from either end of the room.   

We also set up a couple of PA speakers around the perimeter of the entrance lobby so guests could listen to the appropriate music while the hors d’oeuvres and prosecco were distributed by the in-house catering team.

Based on the outskirts of Godalming, Busbridge Lakes, is undoubtedly one of the most romantic places for a couple to tie the knot. Set in the grounds of a 2A Heritage garden with three lakes and home to one of the largest collections of waterbirds in the country, this venue is simply stunning.

This past summer, it played host to a wedding event that had all of its technical aspects taken care of by The Sound & Lighting Hire Company. And, due to the nature of the venue, we were tasked with supplying more equipment and event production services than we would to most weddings, as we shall now explain. 

Turnkey Wedding Production Delivered by The Sound & Lighting Hire Company at Busbridge Lakes, Surrey

This particular venue is unique because it’s a marquee-only venue, and thus, it only operates during the summer months. As you might have guessed, that meant, in addition to all of our usual equipment hire services, we were also asked to handle the supply and installation of the marquee. 

Thanks to the pandemic, this has become more than second nature for us as many weddings planned initially for an inside venue have moved outdoors. In the end, we presented our marquee hire options, and the happy couple opted for a conjoined teepee design, which is very much in vogue at this moment in time. 

We arrived a few days before the event to set the marquee up before moving on to the rest of the event equipment we would require. We also set up the power distribution and generators required to ensure all of the on-site equipment could run without interruption.

Once the marquee was erected, we arrived back on-site the next day to begin work on the remaining aspects of event production. The first task was to set up a stage, dance floor, and the other sound equipment required for the professional live wedding band to play throughout the night. 

We supplied one of our larger live band sound hire packages, including a full suite of d&b audiotechnik speakers, subwoofers, stage monitors, power amps, Shure microphones, and a top-class digital mixing desk from Midas. During the reception, the sound was overseen by one of our very experienced sound engineers.   

We then set up the lighting rig that we would use to enhance this stunning setting. Not only did we affix a range of stage lights to properly illuminate the band, but we also used the structure to position the disco lights for maximum impact. 

Lastly, we set up the dance floor, which totalled a whopping 125 square metres. We supplied our starlit dance floor, which really came to life when darkness fell, and the primary light source switched to the festoon lighting we had installed and draped throughout the marquee structure. 

Once the day and evening of festivities were over, we returned to the site to begin dismantling and packing everything away before returning them to their respective warehouses and preparing them for their next outing. In all, we managed to leave the site looking as it had done within 48 hours.

Over the last few decades, the Nutfield Priory Hotel & Spa has become one of Surrey’s “go-to” conference event locations due to its high standard of on-site facilities and proximity to the M25 and Gatwick Airport.

The Sound & Light Hire Company was hired to supply, set up and install AV equipment and accessories for multiple conference meeting rooms, liaising with the hotel’s in-house team throughout the process.

In addition, we were also tasked with setting up “extras”, including desks and chairs, podiums, wall-mounted screens, and PA speaker systems. So, with that in mind, let’s tell you more about our work for this event.

Our team delivered and installed a range of AV equipment for a private conference event that recently took place at the Nutfield Priory Hotel. We provided a full range of AV equipment and technology, including projector and screen combinations, professional conference PA equipment, lighting, and furniture accessories. 

The organisation hosting the conference actually booked several rooms, so we had to replicate the initial setup in a couple more meeting spaces to facilitate break-out sessions with the invited delegates. 

Getting into more specifics, for the screen technology, we supplied a Panasonic HD projector with a 7′ x 5′ projector screen for the main room and then supplied the break-out rooms with wall-mounted 75″ LED TV screens. 

The professional sound equipment was focused in the main room, with a couple of PA speakers and a subwoofer suffice for the event requirements. We also supplied several microphones and a digital mixing desk so the in-house team could balance the mic volumes of presenters and panellists.  

Lastly, we completed the conference AV installation in the main function room with a small lighting truss (complete with a few spotlights), a few carefully placed venue uplighters, a podium, several chairs, and a specially designed desk for a special Q&A session held with leading invited panellists.

The prestigious Woldingham Golf Club played host to a very exclusive 30th Birthday Party that required the services of The Sound & Lighting Hire Company. Constructed in the style of a Palladian country mansion, this exquisite venue is located in the picturesque Halliloo Valley, Surrey.

We were tasked with supplying and installing all of the technical equipment required for the live entertainment booked for the evening. For this particular occasion, the entertainment came in the form of a prominent London DJ, and we worked hard to deliver a setup fit for any exclusive event. 

Professional Sound and Lighting Setup Installed and Rigged at Woldingham Golf Club, Surrey 

Our task started with creating the lighting arrangement. It involved all manner of lights, but the focus was on creating a disco lighting arrangement that would draw even the most hesitant guests into the dance floor area. 

The Sound and Lighting Hire Company provided a 8m x 3m lighting truss that was specially fixed in place using top of the range rigging equipment. The expert team of lighting technicians then set about rigging all of the lighting fixtures with a range of beams and special effects lighting equipment. These lights were complemented by a range of moving head lights and wireless dance floor uplights.

Next up was the sound equipment. We set up a professional DJ booth complete with a range of professional DJ equipment specified on the artist’s rider. We then surrounded the booth area with a powerful PA system with subwoofers, power amps, and top-class d&b audiotechnik speakers so that the whole party could enjoy the DJ’s set.

Despite being the first choice to provide the equipment for the event, we had very little notice to pull everything together for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the event was a surprise and took a great deal of planning from friends and family to ensure everyone could attend the date in question. 

Secondly, the ever-changing COVID-19 restrictions meant that the booked date of the venue could only be confirmed at short notice, despite being several weeks in the works.

Our team of experienced engineers and technicians worked tirelessly during the day leading up to the evening event to ensure everything was A-OK, and the hosts were immensely grateful for our efforts.

There’s no doubt about it, Botleys Mansion is one of Surrey’s most exclusive weddings venues. Set within the grounds of 57 acres of stunning parkland, this 18th century, Grade II-listed Palladian mansion was the perfect venue for an ultra-glamorous country house wedding we recently supplied.

The happy couple’s wedding planner had tasked us with creating a stunning sound, lighting, and stage set up for the evening entertainment, and let’s just say that they weren’t disappointed! 

So without further ado, let’s tell you a little more about the event and how we helped pull off what was a spectacular event.

We were first approached by the happy couple that had booked the exclusive-use Chertsey venue for a winter wedding. After responding to their initial enquiry, they put us in touch with their dedicated event planner. 

Once we had a sit-down discussion regarding the primary event concepts and requirements, we then went on to carry out a site survey at the venue, where we discussed the music and entertainment plans in more detail with one of Botleys event managers.

Botleys Mansion has a spectacular Grand Hall, with a vaulted glass ceiling, complete with huge windows and plenty of natural light. The room was to be decorated in delicate blush pink and ivory tones to complement the bride’s stunning bridal dress, which was designed by a leading London fashion house. 

Our job was to complement this existing arrangement, which we did by carefully positioning bright white festoon lights that gave the appearance of stars under the night sky (the glass roof is almost entirely transparent). We complemented these lights with some thoughtful uplights set up strategically around the Grand Hall to set off the decorations perfectly. 

Next up were the arrangements for the live entertainment.

The event planner had booked two professional weddings bands and a DJ for the celebration, and not only did we set up and rig everything, but we also provided a team of professional production engineers on-site to oversee sound mixing and lighting direction as well as troubleshooting any issues should they pop up during the event (they didn’t).

Whilst Botleys Mansion does provide a full in-house catering service for events on-site, the happy couple’s event planner had already sourced their own cake designer, caterers, and florists for the celebration.

All-in-all, it was a fantastic event that we know will live long in the memory of the happy couple and everyone in attendance. Seeing their faces when they entered the venue for the first time was really special and gave us immense satisfaction.
