Farnham Castle is just under an hour from London and positioned on the Surrey/Hampshire border. Founded by the Bishop of Winchester and dating back to the 12th century, this magnificent building is nestled among beautiful grounds and scenic woodlands. It’s the perfect place to host all kinds of events, including weddings and charity balls. 

There are a variety of rooms and suites within the building that play host to occasions of all kinds, blending modern and contemporary features with period architecture. One such room had been booked out to welcome guests for an awards evening for a prestigious London-based company. The awards show was to be a celebration of the hard work put in over the last 18 months and overcoming the challenges presented by the pandemic.   

As an approved event production supplier to Farnham Castle, we were called in to handle all event production requirements not handled in house. So let’s tell you a little more about the work we carried out. 

Stage Hire and Sound Equipment Provided to Awards Evening at Farnham Castle

Upon sitting down with the client, one of the first elements we discussed was the stage, which was the focal point for the evening. We considered several stage hire options before reaching a consensus on a modular design, with four tiers leading up to the main stage platform. They went for black colour with gold trim on the steps (tiers) leading up the stage, in keeping with the overall black and gold dress code and decor for the event. 

We kitted out the stage with a podium for the presenter and slotted a wired microphone just above where the presenter’s notes were to be positioned. We then rigged up an extensive PA system that includes several speakers, sub-bass units, stage monitors, and power amps to ensure everyone in attendance had no problem hearing proceedings. 

With those elements taken care of, it was time to move on to the lighting. 

Event Lighting Supplied to Prestigious Awards Show in Surrey

The event brief concerning lighting was split into decorative/mood lighting and stage lighting. On the decorative side, we positioned several wireless uplighters in two banks (one bank for each wall) along the perimeter of the function room. We programmed them to emit a light shade of gold, identical to the main colour in their logo and the trim added to the main stage tiers.  

We also set up a gobo projector that beamed the company logo around the ceiling close to the stage to add a real touch of class to proceedings. With the mood and decorative lighting taken care of, it was time to rig the stage lighting. 

We started by constructing and rigging a rectangular truss suspended from the ceiling using dedicated anchor points. We then started affixing the stage lighting fixtures, including spotlights, stage washes, and a few disco lights (for light displays in between awards categories). 

Finally, our engineers and technicians were on hand to handle the sound mixing and technical direction of the lighting sequences. The event was a resounding success, and everyone had a fantastic evening. We’re already looking forward to being involved in next year’s edition.

Set in the rural village location of Worplesdon, Worplesdon Place is a popular hotel and events venue situated on the outskirts of Guildford. Boasting two acres of stunning landscaped gardens (including a swan lake), this 19th-century country manor house has been carefully repurposed and re-designed to become the perfect venue for a number of private celebrations such as weddings and birthday parties. 

We’ve been an event production partner to Worplesdon Place for several years now, so we got the call to handle the associated event equipment hire requirements for a private function booked to celebrate a silver wedding anniversary. 

Sound Equipment and Event Lighting Provided to Surrey Anniversary Celebration

Since this venue is well-versed in hosting private functions, they often provide a decent chunk of the event production requirements themselves. As a result, they provided the partygoers with tables, chairs, place settings and took care of the catering elements. 

In short, our brief was to handle all of the technical aspects linked to the live entertainment, which came in the form of a local DJ booked by the celebrants. We were passed his details from the client and liaised with him to ascertain what he would need. Although he had his own decks, we needed to provide plenty of other related equipment. 

We started with the DJ booth itself, installing one of our LED DJ booths for him to work from. We then set up the associated sound system. With around 75 guests in attendance, we didn’t have to install the most extensive set-up in the world. However, the premium RCF speaker arrangement we supplied still packed a serious punch. 

Next up, we installed one of our disco lighting hire packages and included a laser machine and smoke machine on top for good measure. We usually erected a small truss to ensure all of the lights could be accommodated, and, with the lights taken care of, the only production left for us to install was the dance floor.

After liaising with the client, they decided they wanted to go for something with a little more “pizzazz,” and we were more than happy to oblige. We supplied one of our black LED dance floors that complemented the function suite nicely and added a real touch of class to the celebrations. 

Once everything was in place, we ran through some of the more technical stuff with the event organisers and the DJ. With the on-the-spot training out of the way, we left everyone to enjoy their evening before returning around midnight to pick everything up and load it back onto our vans. 

It looked as though everything had enjoyed a lovely evening, evidenced by the fact that people were up and dancing right up until the lights went on at the stroke of 12.

Set within 65 acres of rolling Surrey Countryside is High Billinghurst Farm. Located between Dunsfold and Hascombe, a long meandering private lane, edged by hedgerows, wildflowers, and fields, leads you towards High Billinghurst Farm’s event barn, which provides the perfect setting for any special occasion.

Over the summer, we were enlisted to provide the full event production requirements for a wedding taking place at this stunning venue. From the decorative event lighting to the sound requirements, we handled all technical aspects for this memorable day, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it. 

So without further ado, let’s get started. 

Event Lighting Supplied to Surrey Wedding Venue

The first and most extensive element of the wedding production to tackle was the event lighting, especially the decorative and mood lighting elements. We started our work in the area immediately outside the barn. We rigged wedding festoon lights and ran them from pole to pole (there are telegraph-style poles outside the barn). 

Our next move was to set up wireless uplighters along the hedge-rowed perimeter. We set up one battery-powered uplighters every five metres and set them to emit a warm white glow that was not too dissimilar to the warm orange glow given off by the festoon lights. 

With the exterior lighting taken care of, it was time to move indoors. Here, we got inventive and set up gobos over our uplighters, projecting leafy patterns on either side of the barn’s wooden sloping roof. We then topped off the decorative lighting arrangement with light-up letters spelling the couple’s name that took their place in front of the DJ booth

With the decorative lighting taken care of, it was time to move on to the more functional event production elements.

Our focus moved onto the live entertainment element of the wedding reception. We had liaised with the wedding DJ before the event, so we already knew what he was looking for in terms of production. 

He already had his own decks (you can hire DJ equipment from us should you need to for your wedding), which we connected up to a premium sound system made up of d&b audiotechnik speakers and sub-bass units. We also supplied him with a Shure wireless mic for announcements.

We then erected a small truss to affix the disco lighting hire fixtures to before placing a floor-mounted smoke machine at the base of the DJ booth. Last but by no means least, we installed a white dance floor with built-in LEDs that twinkled underneath the guest’s feet as they danced the night away. 

Once set-up was complete, we left everyone to it and returned the following day to dismantle and collect everything before returning it to the warehouse. The happy couple thanked us for our hard work and commented on how amazing the barn looked for their big day.

A few months ago, we were brought in (as the preferred AV equipment and services provider) to help with an all-day corporate conference. So let’s tell you a little bit more about the work we carried out for this event.

The event was in the IT industry. A select group of under 100 delegates had paid for tickets to see several key movers and shakers in the industry give their thoughts on current hot topics within the industry. 

Our job was to assist the speakers and event organisers by providing an all-encompassing AV installation that more than catered for the needs of the audience and the size of the function room.

Being IT guys, we didn’t need to provide some of the necessary equipment such as laptops and HDMI cables (we usually do), but we did take care of the rest, as we shall now explain.

We started with supplying and installing one of our top-of-the-range LED projectors, which we complemented with a tripod projector screen of 7′ x 5′. Once we had set them both up, we liaised with the organiser and the keynote speakers to connect everything up, adjust projector settings, and quickly conduct a dry run to ensure they were comfortable with everything. 

Once comfortable, we then moved on to the sound requirements. Since there were only 100 delegates in attendance and the room wasn’t enormous, we could get away with just a couple of PA speakers. We then supplied and set up a couple of radio lapel mics for the presenters, ran everything through a mixing desk, and conducted sound checks to ensure everything sounded A-OK. 

We then left the organisers to it as they started the conference after the initial coffee and pastries. We returned late in the afternoon to pick everything up, and the host said everything went off without a hitch, which is precisely what we wanted to hear.

Sitting at the end of our mile-long lavender-lined driveway is the contemporary clubhouse of Farleigh Golf Club. Boasting 350 acres of grounds and fairways, this members-only golf club doubles as an exclusive events venue for all kinds of celebrations and functions. 

Every year, the site hosts several Christmas parties, and we were called in to help deliver an evening booked for a local company celebrating their hard work over the past 18 months. With employees treated to the Platinum Package, the pressure was on us to make sure everyone had an evening to remember. 

Thankfully, our team was more than up to the task, as we shall now explain. 

Total Event Production Supplied and Installed to Surrey Christmas Party 

The event’s format was very familiar, with a cocktail reception, three-course dinner, and then live entertainment and dancing until carriages at around midnight. While we were primarily concerned with the live entertainment elements, we did also help out with many of the more decorative components of event production.

We supplied several white venue drapes and even brought in a snow machine to cover the function room in the white stuff (next to the Christmas tree). By the time we had finished setting up, the place looked as close to a winter wonderland as you could get! 

With the decorative elements out of the way, it was time to focus on the more technical side of things concerning live entertainment.

We quickly moved on to set up all of our professional sound equipment, including a premium sound system from d&b audiotechnik, wireless microphones for announcements, and we also installed the DJ booth and decks for the booked entertainer. 

Our team then moved on to setting up the dance floor area. We started by rigging disco lights in their dedicated positions (this function room has purpose-built lighting attachments) before moving on to setting up more specialist equipment such as the laser and smoke machines. 

With the disco lighting hire display taken care of, we switched our attention to the dance floor. This was a white LED starlit dance floor (one of our most popular hire items), and, given the size of the room, we were happy that we managed to squeeze in a 10m x 5m dance floor, giving the partygoers plenty of room to get their groove on. 

When we came back towards the end of the evening to pack everything up, it was clear that everyone was having a great time, and we got a big thumbs up from the client for a job well done. Once proceedings were over, we dismantled everything, loaded it back onto the vans and then transported it back to our warehouses, ready for the next Christmas party.

Standing on the site of the grand Tudor Palace of Henry VIII, monarchs including Elizabeth I, James I, and Charles I also resided at Oatlands during their reign. Today, however, the hotel hosts all kinds of events, including conferences and weddings. 

It was recently the site for which our client had planned an exclusive garden party for friends and family who had been separated due to the pandemic and hadn’t seen each other in over 18 months. 

The Sound & Light Hire Company were called in to help with a number of event production elements. Being the preferred event production partner for this illustrious hotel, we were more than happy to oblige.

The event was to be held in La Terrazza, a function suite that blends the outdoors with the indoors. Perhaps best described as an ultra-modern conservatory with sides that open fully, this was the perfect spot for enjoying the manicured lawns while benefiting from protection from the elements. 

The primary focus for the evening event was a three-course dinner before our team’s efforts were put to use for the post-dinner entertainment. The client had hired a local DJ, and we were charged with supplying everything he needed for his performance. 

The obvious place to start was with the DJ decks. In the end, he opted for a set of Pioneer CDJ2000NXS2s, which we hooked up to a premium PA system from d&b audiotechnik. With the principal sound considerations out of the way, it was time to move onto the lighting and wider dance floor area.

While space was limited within La Terraza, we did manage to squeeze a small lighting truss structure into the space and affix plenty of disco lighting fixtures. Next, we moved onto the dance floor, installing a 16ft x 16ft white LED dance floor for the party guests. Lastly, we covered the DJ booth and surrounding area in a starlit draping to match the dance floor we had provided. 

Once everything was set up, and we had gone through a quick run-through with the DJ, we left the site to allow everyone to enjoy their party. When we arrived back at the venue close to midnight, it was clear that everyone had enjoyed a fabulous evening. The client later reached out to us and thanked us for all of the hard work and would recommend us to anyone else thinking of hosting a party in the near future, which we really appreciated.

The premise of the event was a three-course dinner delivered by the in-house catering team (headed up by a first-rate Parisian chef) followed by drinks and dancing.

Our brief for this event was straightforward since Coltsford Mill provided a decent chunk of the event production (such as tables, chairs, decorations etc.) themselves. We were to provide the event lighting, sound equipment, and dance floor for the occasion. 

Upon arrival at the venue, we turned our attention to the mood lighting, installing a number of wireless uplighters that emitted a soft shade of blue that matched the charity’s branding colours. We also wrapped fairy lights around the metal supporting poles that remain within the Mill Room.

Next up was the equipment for the live entertainment and the dance floor.

The remainder of our event brief was focused on the live entertainment, which came in the form of a live DJ set from a prominent local artist. We liaised with him before the event and provided him with everything he had requested, including Pioneer DJ decks, a DJ booth, and several dance floor lighting fixtures, including a laser machine and a strobe light. 

We then set up a professional PA system for him, including several passive speakers and sub-bass units, and supplied a wireless Shure microphone for any announcements he needed to make.  

Lastly, our focus shifted onto supplying and installing one of our starlit dance floor options. The client decided to go for our black version, and we supplied matching starlit venue drapes to give the dance floor area an extra touch of class and exclusivity.

A part of Woldingham School, this exclusive-use 19th century mansion sits on the Surrey / Kent border and offers couples the chance to feel like king and queen for the day in one of the most picturesque settings Surrey has to offer.

We started outdoors, where the post-ceremony drinks reception was to be held (before the dinner and dancing of the main wedding reception). 

There was a large and imposing pergola which we softened by wrapping wedding fairy lights around it. Next, we set up a couple of battery-powered PA speakers to play gentle background music while guests milled about the patio area with their glasses of prosecco. 

Of course, this was merely the beginning of our efforts and the bulk of the work was contained within the main reception room.

Moving into the main reception area, our first task was setting up the room to look as the couple had requested via the in-house wedding coordinator. We started with setting up the white wedding venue drapes, which hung from the ceiling and other strategic locations. We complemented these drapes with wireless venue uplighters that gave off a soft white glow in keeping with the overall theme. 

Next, we moved on to the live entertainment’s technical requirements. We supplied and installed one of our smaller indoor stage hire options and then began work on the professional sound equipment. The bride and groom had booked a live band, which we then liaised with during the lead up to the event to ensure we supplied everything they needed. 

In the end, we provided vocal and instrumental mics from Shure, an all-inclusive PA system from d&b audiotechnik, and we ran everything through a Midas digital mixing desk. Our sound engineer stayed on for the duration of the event to ensure the live band sounded every bit as good as they should. 

The final act was the dance floor area. We started by constructing a small truss structure and rigging it with a range of disco lighting fixtures before moving onto the dance floor itself. We installed a 150 square-metre LED dance floor, which twinkled under the guests’ feet as they danced the night away.

It’s fair to say that Joldwynds is one of the most unique event venues in all of Surrey. This Grade II listed building was built in the 1930s and features striking architecture. The one-of-a-kind venue sits on Holmbury Hill, boasting incredible views of the surrounding Surrey countryside. 

It was at this stunning location that there was a recent art exhibition-cum-party that we were tasked with helping on the event production side of things. Our event brief was split in two, with the first aspect focused on the exhibition and the second element that required our help was supplying and installing the technical infrastructure for the party and live entertainment.  

So let’s take you through our work, starting with the art exhibition. 

Event Lighting and Sound Equipment Supplied to Surrey Art Exhibition 

The exhibition was showcasing predominately interactive digital art installations, and we were contacted to help with a number of event production elements. The first of which was supplying and installing a number of flat screen TVs upon which the artists’ works would be displayed. We also helped with the sound element of some installations, providing PA speakers where necessary. 

Lastly, for some of the more traditional art pieces, we rigged pinspots above the pieces so that they could be shown in their best light as it were. With all of those elements taken care of, our team moved on to set up the event equipment for the party scheduled to take place immediately after the exhibition.

Once the art exhibition had come to a close, the paying guests were invited across to the other side of the property to listen to speeches from the artist and curators responsible for the exhibition before opening the floor up to the catered buffet, drinks, and eventual dancing. 

As you might have guessed, we were placed in charge of the entertainment element, namely the music. There was a small live band booked, and we helped them by supplying microphones, PA speakers, a couple of floor-based stage monitors, and power amps. 

We had one of our sound engineers on standby to oversee the mixing, and our lighting technicians had erected a few light stands upon which stage lighting fixtures were perched on top. Since the space was quite tight, we opted for a few spotlights, stage washes, and PAR cans

This tight-knit event was a resounding success, and it was lovely to see everyone celebrating their hard work in the months leading up to the exhibition. We were also completely in awe of this unusual venue and hope to be back again soon.

Woodlands Park Hotel is located in the heart of Surrey and boasts a long and prestigious history of hosting events. This events venue has even been frequented by the likes of the Prince of Wales and actress Lillie Langtry.

Set in beautifully landscaped gardens, Woodlands Park Hotel offers a variety of well-appointed function rooms that can cater for anywhere between 10 to 200 guests. It was one of these rooms that our client had booked for an 18th birthday bash for their daughter. 

They then reached out to us to provide all of the equipment needed to ensure that the event was every bit as memorable as it should be. So let’s tell you a little more about how we went about achieving that goal. 

Event Lighting Supplied to 18th Birthday Party at Woodlands Park Hotel 

We started with the event lighting for the room. We were in the Cornwall Suite, which boasted two impressive chandeliers and huge bay windows that let plenty of natural light in. We started with placing wireless room uplighters along the room’s perimeter and setting them to emit a deep purple glow as requested. 

We then moved onto the bay windows, adorning them with fairy lights that really came into their own once darkness fell. Lastly, the middle set of bay windows had a set of french doors opening out onto a patio and lawn area. We spruced up this outdoor area by running festoon lights from elevated anchor points (criss-crossing) to make the space feel warmer and more inviting. 

The final element of the lighting setup concerned the dance floor area. We rigged a small truss to go over the DJ booth and added several disco lighting fixtures, a laser machine, and a smoke machine to complete the lineup.

Next up, we set up the sound equipment, which included several PA speakers, subwoofers, power amps, and we also supplied the DJ equipment for the person overseeing the music for the evening. We also supplied a Shure wireless microphone and ran everything through a mixing desk overseen by one of our skilled sound engineers. 

Lastly, we installed one of our signature LED starlit dance floors. Given the Cornwall Suite is quite a large function room, we were able to install a 20m x 10m dance floor, giving the guests 200 square metres to work with!
